Used For: Control of excessive bleeding (e.g. heavy periods, surgery, trauma, dental bleeding)
Class: Antifibrinolytic Agent
Tranexamic Acid works by inhibiting fibrinolysis—it blocks the breakdown of fibrin clots by stopping plasminogen from converting to plasmin. This action helps to stabilize blood clots and reduce excessive bleeding during or after surgery, trauma, or menstruation.
Dosage:
Heavy menstrual bleeding: 500–1000 mg 2–3 times a day for up to 4 days
Surgical bleeding or trauma: As prescribed by the physician
Should be taken with water, with or without food
Side Effects:
Common: Nausea, diarrhea, headache
Rare: Visual disturbances, dizziness
Very rare: Allergic reaction, thromboembolic events (e.g., blood clots)
Transamine 500mg is indicated for:
Menorrhagia (heavy menstrual bleeding)
Surgical bleeding control
Postpartum hemorrhage
Dental procedures in hemophiliacs
Bleeding disorders including nosebleeds and trauma
Avoid if you have:
Active thromboembolic disease (DVT, PE)
Acquired color vision defects
Hypersensitivity to tranexamic acid
Subarachnoid hemorrhage
Use with caution in patients with history of thrombosis or renal impairment
Not recommended in patients with irregular menstrual bleeding unless underlying cause is diagnosed
Ophthalmic exam may be required in long-term use
Warning 1: May increase the risk of blood clots, especially in those with clotting disorders
Warning 2: Visual changes should be reported immediately
Warning 3: Dosage should be adjusted in renal impairment
