Solifen (Solifenacin Succinate) Specification

Requires Prescription (YES/NO): Yes

Generics: Solifenacin Succinate

Used For: Overactive bladder, urinary incontinence, and urgency

Class: Antimuscarinic / Anticholinergic Agent

How It Works

Solifen works by blocking muscarinic receptors in the bladder. This reduces involuntary bladder muscle contractions, increases bladder capacity, and helps control symptoms such as urinary frequency, urgency, and leakage.

Usage and Safety

Dosage:

  • Adults: 5 mg once daily, may be increased to 10 mg once daily depending on tolerance.

  • Taken with or without food. Swallow tablet whole with water.

Side Effects:

  • Common: Dry mouth, constipation, blurred vision, urinary retention.

  • Less common: Drowsiness, abdominal pain, nausea.

  • Serious: Severe allergic reactions, difficulty urinating, irregular heartbeat.

Drug Interactions:

  • Strong CYP3A4 inhibitors (ketoconazole, itraconazole) may increase solifenacin levels.

  • Caution with other anticholinergic drugs (risk of enhanced side effects).

  • Use carefully with drugs that prolong QT interval.

🩺 Indication

Solifen is prescribed for:

  • Overactive bladder with symptoms of urgency, frequent urination, or leakage.

  • Urinary incontinence caused by bladder muscle overactivity.
