How It Works

Ponstan contains Mefenamic Acid, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID).

Ponstan Usage and Safety

Dosage

  • Typical Adult Dose: 500 mg initially, then 250 mg every 6 hours if needed

  • Children over 14 years: As per doctor’s advice

  • Use for short-term only (maximum 7 days unless advised)

Side Effects

  • Stomach pain, nausea, diarrhea

  • Drowsiness, dizziness

Indications

Ponstan is used for short-term relief of:

When Not to Use

  • History of peptic ulcers or GI bleeding

  • Allergy to NSAIDs or mefenamic acid

  • Pregnancy (especially in third trimester)

  • Asthma exacerbated by NSAIDs

Ponstan Precautions

Precaution

  • Take with food or milk to reduce stomach upset

  • Do not use with alcohol or other NSAIDs
