Ponstan contains Mefenamic Acid, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID).
It works by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis, which helps reduce inflammation, pain, and fever. It’s especially effective in treating menstrual cramps and musculoskeletal pain.
Typical Adult Dose: 500 mg initially, then 250 mg every 6 hours if needed
Children over 14 years: As per doctor’s advice
Use for short-term only (maximum 7 days unless advised)

Indigestion or heartburn
Rare: skin rash, fluid retention, kidney or liver issues
Risk of GI bleeding or ulceration with prolonged use

Antihypertensives – may reduce their effectiveness
Diuretics – may decrease their efficacy
Ponstan is used for short-term relief of:

Headache or migraine
Joint pain, inflammation, and swelling
History of peptic ulcers or GI bleeding
Allergy to NSAIDs or mefenamic acid
Kidney, liver, or heart failure
Pregnancy (especially in third trimester)
Asthma exacerbated by NSAIDs
Take with food or milk to reduce stomach upset
Do not use with alcohol or other NSAIDs
Monitor for signs of GI bleeding if using long-term
Avoid driving if experiencing drowsiness
