How It Works

Cozaar contains Losartan, an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB).
It works by:

  • Blocking angiotensin II from binding to its receptors

  • Slowing progression of kidney disease in diabetics

Cozaar Tablet Usage and Safety

Dosage

Side Effects

  • Dizziness or lightheadedness

  • Fatigue

  • Upper respiratory infections

Drug Interactions

  • Potassium supplements / Potassium-sparing diuretics: May raise potassium dangerously

  • NSAIDs: May reduce blood pressure-lowering effect and harm kidneys

  • Diuretics / Antihypertensives: May enhance blood pressure lowering

  • Alcohol: May increase side effects like dizziness

Indications

Used for:

  • High blood pressure (Hypertension)

  • Reducing risk of stroke in patients with high blood pressure and left ventricular hypertrophy

  • Protecting kidneys in type 2 diabetes with proteinuria

When Not to Use

  • Hypersensitivity to Losartan or any of its components

  • During pregnancy (especially second and third trimesters)

  • Patients with severe liver impairment

  • Concomitant use with aliskiren in patients with diabetes

Cozaar Tablet Precautions

Precaution

  • Monitor blood pressure, kidney function, and potassium levels regularly

  • Avoid salt substitutes containing potassium

  • Inform doctor if you have heart failure, liver or kidney issues

Cozaar Tablet Warnings

Warning 1

Do not use during pregnancy. May cause fetal harm. Stop immediately if pregnancy is detected.

Warning 2

Use cautiously in patients with renal artery stenosis—may worsen kidney function.

Warning 3

May cause hypotension, especially in patients who are volume-depleted (e.g., on diuretics).
